MedEx Documentation

Overview

MedEx is a web application that helps image providers sort, de-identify, align, and verify DICOM image files.
It operates according to a machine-readable specification, replacing traditional image transfer agreements.

Benefits

MedEx replaces standard image transfer agreement documents. It offers automated data compliance and reduces the time and resources spent on data clarification on both the data sender and receiver sides.

How it Works

Based on the agreed specification, MedEx will perform the following actions:

  • Sort files into a structured folder hierarchy based on DICOM headers and input folder names.
  • De-identify images in compliance with the DICOM Standard PS3.15 E.1.1.
  • Align identifiers between DICOM headers and file paths.
  • Verify input folders and specified DICOM headers.

Note: All files remain on your computer throughout the entire process. Please treat processed images as sensitive personal data as well, since they may contain distinct anatomical features or, in the case of calculating Specific Uptake Values, personal information such as the subject’s weight or height.

Getting started

  1. Open the project-specific MedEx URL you received from us.
  2. Acknowledge the initial confirmation screen.
  3. Select your input directory containing DICOM files.
  4. Choose a local output directory to store the organized files. Ensure there is enough disk space to hold the entire dataset.
  5. Provide additional data for processing if required.
  6. Click on "Run".
  7. Review the error log for any critical errors.
